     The City of Athens is accepting applications for an experienced, professional Human Resource Director.  This position reports directly to the City Manager and is a key management and leadership role responsible for leading the HR strategic and tactical HR planning, project management related to all personnel initiatives, policy development/coordination for human resources, and the technical support on special projects or issues. This position will manage all aspects of the Human Resource function which includes ensuring compliance with personnel related laws as well as city personnel rules and regulations; payroll processing procedures and laws; organizing the professional development of employees; managing the employment hiring process, administering the compensation and benefits plans.  Applicant must be skilled in communicating both orally and in writing; supervising assigned staff; budgeting; conflict resolution and mediation.   Applicant should have the ability to manage shifting priorities and demands, and to work under stressful situations in a high volume environment.   Four year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in business management, human resource management, or public administration.     The University of TN - Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) will be offering an employment law course entitled "Hiring and Firing Danger Zone From a Legal Perspective".  The training will be provided by Stacie Carraway, who is an attorney in the Chattanooga/Nashville area.  She’s a great instructor, and this particular course may be of great interest to you as HR professionals.

    The course is designed to assist municipal employers understand the parameters for hiring and firing employees.  Case studies and best practices will be discussed. The dates and location of the session are:

    • September 28, 2016 - Nashville

    The City of Oak Ridge is seeking applicants for their soon to be vacant Personnel Director position.  The vacancy is due to the retirement of the incumbent.  The position plans, directs, oversees, monitors and coordinates the City's Personnel and Risk Management programs and develops, implements, and administers the technical aspects of the Personnel function.

    The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree and seven years personnel experience, three of which must be in a supervisory capacity.

    Salary Range - $69,804.80 - $104,686.40,

    The TN Department of Human Services has a current vacancy for an HR Analyst 3 in Shelby County.  The position will be available until May 10th, 2016.

    3.     The City of Bartlett, TN is seeking applications for the position of Personnel Director.  This is an appointed position and will work under the general direction of the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to direct and control the City's Personnel/Human Resources function, including the general supervision of assigned personnel.  The Personnel Director is responsible for recruitment and selection, training, policy administration, compensation and benefits for the city.

    The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resource Management or a closely related field; plus a minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in personnel management to include some supervisory experience or equivalent education, training and or experience.  The applicant must pass a background check, physical, psychological and drug test.  MBA, MPA, professional certification by SHRM or IPMA-HR and five years municipal management/supervisory experience preferred, but not required.

    The University of TN - Municipal Technical Advisory Service is offering a 2016 Employment Law Update.  The session will explore recent legislative actions affecting the public sector.  The session will address the FLSA Overtime Changes, the DOL Regulatory Agenda, the EEOC Ban the Box initiative, the ACA, FMLA, same sex benefits and many other topics and trends.
