General Description:
The Recruiter will provide employment-related services including recruiting, screening applications, interviewing candidates and making salary recommendations for exempt and non-exempt positions as well as providing guidance and career counseling to internal and external job applicants. The successful candidate will also be responsible for sourcing and attracting a diverse workforce by building and fostering relationships in the community to target underrepresented job seekers. Additionally, he/she will serve as a strategic partner between Human Resources and the university community by collaborating on recruitment-related projects and initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Recruiter will:
• Work closely with departments to determine staffing needs and will provide employment-related services including recruiting, screening applications, interviewing candidates and making salary recommendations for exempt and non-exempt positions.
• Provide guidance to hiring managers by offering counsel in recruitment best practices to ensure efficient and effective searches with successful outcomes.
• Provide guidance and career counseling to internal and external job applicants.
• Communicate with candidates in-person and via telephone and e-mail concerning specific vacancies, job qualifications, resume assistance, salary concerns, benefits information, etc.
• Actively source and recruit candidates from underrepresented populations.
• Attend career fairs and promote the benefits of a career with the University of Tennessee.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with campus and community groups to aid in outreach and diversity recruiting.
• Extend job offers to new hires, processes hire paperwork & background checks and coordinates start date and orientation date with candidates.
• Ensure all state and federal requirements are met throughout the hiring process.
• Conduct New Employee Orientation.
• Develop, design and deliver training programs on recruitment-related topics to large audiences.
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum three years’ professional level experience as a recruiter, to include a proven track-record of full-cycle, diversity recruiting. Experience recruiting in higher education is strongly preferred.

• Strong computer skills including the use of a Human Resources Information System and Microsoft tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit mature judgment at all times
• Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
